Ships are sailing and I watch my home fade

Yet strangely I'm afraid
The promises of Gold and Paradise
Are so thrilling that I'm willing
To give my own life
First time failing, now prevailing
We're see gods on our way
To right our wrong and sing our song
Our victory now is made
Wind so high, clearest sky
Yet our future was so dark
Our hopes and dreams or it seems
Were about to fall apart

These empty houses speak of death
And now we're searching for the resting place
Of those who disappeared
Our foolish, hopeful plans have died
And though we tried to carry on we find
There no one left to hear

We arrive and set up as best we can
Seek out food and build our cabins
To settle in this land
So little time to finish what we start
With winter fast arriving I loose heart
No natives helping, children yelling
Diseases running wild
The food won't grow, it's begun to snow
This plan is so defiled

Load up my ship for another trip
To get some more supplies
Yet I was too late, I sealed their fate
Their doom was no surprise

Three years pass and I am stuck at home
The war has stopped me as well as these
Boats that I was loaned
With the Spanish Armada now on its knees
My way is clear, it's time to leave
On the ocean breeze
Leave with haste, no time to waste
I have spent too long
It's 1590, time is winding
I fear that Roanoke is gone
Land's in sight, I'm filled with freight
When no one's there to greet
Arrive on shore and oh my Lord
No one's in the streets
No one's home, I'm all alone
Can you hear my pleas
The only clue that we can use
Is a word carved in a tree
