It Was the Summer
de Neil Hilborn
There's a gray house
Inside a yellow sky.
I used to hide all my butterfly wings.
An aviary, fallen feathers
To the ground.
And a sudden cloud
Uncertain bird flies around
And what you do with what you've found
The stars around, your secret sound
The scars on your side
The scars on your side
A tear you kept in a sewing box
And all the knives keep your back straight
My house under big feet now, no shade
Step forward withering
Distracting knives and back again
Watch myself turn to catch myself worn
Help them take the ashes
I can eat them when i need them
