Britanico de nacimiento formo parte de la gran banda, EMERSON LAKE & PALMER. Siendo el guitarrista y compositor conjuntamente con Keith Emerson y Carl Palmer, su musica se basaba en lo progresivo del sonido electroacustico,electronico y piezas netamente clasicas. También fue el fundador de KING CRIMSON, siendo el bajista y vocalista durante tan solo un año.
