The Tell-Tale Heart
de Basil Rathbone
Its a flash in the pan and its out of sight
When the halo drops to the Angels side
Footprints fade with the morning tide
And the shadows sleep until early light
If you can live with me tonight maybe I can compromise
Most times the tell tale signs wont last
Or is it perfect that Im after?
Both sides watch their lives go past
And I must have missed the laughter
Most times the tell tale signs wont last
Who has never been an actor?
And one side has had a long time to crack
Another sunrise another promise to claim
A mirror rests on the crutches of shame
Is that different from what our parents had planned
The rain will pour down and the kids will understand
If you can live with me tonight maybe I can compromise
Natural is ironic for those who rely
On natural as a word to compare their crimes
Is it too late when youve got it figured out?
Or is it just invented drama that we like to work around
And it's a tell tale sign that you can't escape your past
